Tokens of Recollection |  In 2012, while living as an expat in Europe, I dedicated myself to the construction of a visual language that would allow me to cultivate a deeper understanding of my wife, Sarah, and the impact that our lifestyle was having on us both. During this time, I began to consider our willingness to accept cultural differences and our growing desire to make this new place our own.  The series, Tokens of Recollection, combines tightly framed vignettes of Sarah―separating the person from the place; concentrating on her demeanor in order to capture an emotion or display of body language―with evocative images chosen from within our immediate surroundings. This body of work is the product of continuous introspection and an ongoing study of the elements that combine to make a particular place feel like home, primarily through observation of Sarah and taking note of the little things that stir my emotions.  georgeholroyd.com
