In 2011 I travelled to Tegucigalpa, Honduras for my Dad’s wedding. At that time, Honduras had the highest homicide rate per capita according to the 2011 UN Report. I’m in no way drawn to danger, but after doing some research, I decided it would be safe enough to go to the capital city.
I returned again in 2012 for the end of the Mayan Calendar celebrations in Copan, right before US Peace Corps pulled out of the country due to the increasing violence. This project is by no means complete, and I plan on digging deeper on future visits in order to form a proper opinion. Overall I am so grateful that I had a chance to photograph in Honduras. Everyone I met was welcoming and the countryside was stunning, even with its heavy military presence. www.jamesbfeatherstone.com
