Reveries | "One has not really seen the world who has not dreamt what they saw” (Gaston Bachelard, The Poetics of Reverie.) The images instantly each evoke a landscape in its simplest expression, a line drawn by the horizon. When photographing, 4x5 inch films, intentional black smudges, imprints of the pegs left in the emulsion, all evidence or mimic a documentary approach, a desire to fixate reality. The view you see here exists somewhere.

Yet, in spite of the proof in paper, the tangibility of the subject in the photography is an illusion. These landscapes are imaginary, the product of an intimate construction, an arbitrary layout of colors and shapes captured on film. They do not come from a place in the outside world... Does any landscape ever solely come from outside ? Are they not just constructions after all ? Images, fabricated and shared by human beings ?

The poet lends his imagination to the object, and thus reveals the beauty of the world to those who know to look. The eye drifts, it is time to dream and travel. The images reflect a world with hazy outlines, a universe where all has yet to be built, (re)invented. www.tompac.fr
