Text by Curator Adam Cable | Resiliency characterizes the life of anyone pursuing creative work. Despite circumstances, setbacks, and failures, artists continue to find new ways to push forward and around whatever barricades they encounter. As we near the end of this annus horribilis, a horrible year, we wanted to create an exhibition that celebrates quiet victories, earnestness, and drive to continue making in spite of circumstances. While Annus Horribilis does not necessarily focus on the events of 2020, it does reflect many experiences of those continuing to live and create within a particularly challenging time amidst varied and significant losses. All works submitted were made this year but not exhibited or published before now.
Receiving nearly 150 submissions from across the world, we aimed to build a cohesive selection of works from a largely open-ended call for entries. Alongside these images are excerpts from accepted artists' short statements, describing how these respective practices were forced to acknowledge and evolve with our current times. Several artists, listed under honorable mentions, provided work that we could not include in the main exhibition but still wanted to share. We gratefully acknowledge the time and effort spent by all who submitted to this project.
Looking ahead to 2021, it is our hope that this compilation of images inspires a sense of resolve and anticipation as we continue forward, together, into the unknown.

“The Road” exhibition collected images from 46 artists from across the country to create an exhibition that celebrates, highlights and explores the American road and all that it in-tells. The exhibition will survey the notion of the American Road. The road is an iconic theme that runs in some of the best and well known American photographers work such as Stephen Shore, Ed Ruscha, Alec Soth and many others . Photographers have traveled these vast landscapes and across thousands of miles to document this country and all that surrounds the road; the landscape, the gas stations, the motels, the diners and everything that comes by its side and its lifestyle.
Curated by Dana Stirling & Yoav Friedlander and hosted at the JKC Gallery in New Jersey.
The Road will run from February 24th through March 27th with a reception and talk on March 12th from 5:00-7:00 pm. The talk will be at 6:00pm.
“Surreal Estate” project collected photographs of surreal scenes found in the world around us. Selected images have been made into a series of postcards and a zine that seemingly hail from another reality, paired with an enamel pin.
Charlie C. Camuglia is a loud introvert, a bad joke dispenser, and a multidisciplinary artist from NYC whose creative efforts are primarily devoted to exploring and collecting casual sciences – moments of naturally occurring surrealism – on 35mm film. Camuglia has three newly self-published books and is on a mission to make photography a more communal medium by developing and producing various collaborative projects. Most recently, they have accepted the role of Visual Arts Editor for Peach Magazine. Their work has been shown at galleries statewide, including the Queens Museum and Burchfield Penney Art Center, as well as in various DIY and independent spaces and publications.
Carrie Able Gallery in collaboration with Float Magazine present a group show curated by Damien Anger dedicated to photography.
Running from August 1st to September 1st, the exhibition will include around 40 photographs. Featured artists include Amande Parker, Balint Alovits, Justin Rhody, Laura Migliorino, Lisa McCord, Lukasz Horbow, Marco Del Zotto and Tod Kapke.
